Email – Electronic Mail
Email is the lightning fast version of snail mail.  A system for transmitting messages from user to user across the internet.   Unlike modern instant communications, email is not controlled by a single company.  Although it is considered by many as an outdated communication system. It is still the largest and most accessible method of communication on the internet. The Email message is sent between Email servers until it gets to its destination and is accessed through an Email client. Many Email clients are available as web based cloud services like Google’s GMail.

An EMail Address or mailbox is created on a mail server, and is accessed using Email client software. Messages are transmitted “Electronically” using old email protocols. There is no guarantee that your email will be transmitted on secure channels, although most services do use encryption. In this regard it is not considered safe to transmit sensitive or financial information. If you receive a password over email, it is best to access that service right away to change the password using a secure protocol like HTTPS.
