DNSDomain Name System – A system of services and standards to provide naming service for websites and servers

The DNS is an overlay for the IPv4 and IPv6 network addressing system. When you type in a web address into your web browser, the computer or mobile device will first connect with a DNS Server on the network to ask how to direct the request for the address you typed in.

Lets say you typed in WebShopToolbox.com into your browser, the computer will connect to a DNS Server. The DNS Server then looks up that name, and if it doesn’t know off hand it will go out to another DNS Server up the chain to ask. Eventually the answer is found and is returned to the end user. This all happens within a second or two. The web browser is able to use that IP Address to create a connection directly to that web server.
